Over the past 30 years since the reform and opening up, China's tractor industry has undergone a development process from scattered production areas to concentrated ones, from backward technology to advanced ones, from single product varieties to multiple series, and from rough to fine product quality. Great progress has been made in various aspects such as adaptability, advancement, agronomic matching and performance stability.

The tractor industrial system is complete, with a wide variety of products and a significant increase in output. Compared with 30 years ago, the total output value of China's tractor industry increased by 12.7 times in 2007, and the total profit of the tractor industry rose by 9.39 times. The number of tractor varieties rose from 69 in 1984 to 708 in 2007, and the annual production and sales volume soared from 430,000 units in 1978 to 2.1584 million units last year.

Fierce market competition has given rise to a new market pattern for tractors. The fierce market competition and the mechanism of survival of the fittest have played an important role in optimizing the tractor industry. Some tractor enterprises that are not adapted to market development have been restructured and reorganized one after another in the fierce tide of market competition. Private, joint-stock, and "three foreign-funded" enterprises such as Shandong Shifeng, Foton Lovol Heavy Industry, and Jiangsu Changfa have become important forces in China's tractor industry. Some traditional tractor enterprises, such as China National Tractor Corporation, John Deere Tiantuo, Shandong Changlin, and Changzhou Dongfeng, have experienced a "second spring" after restructuring.
